Our speakers are Judge David Newell of the Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 9, and Judge Maggie Jaramillo of the Fort Bend County 400th District Court.
We’ll network from 6pm to 7pm, then hear from our featured speakers.
David Newell was elected to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 2014. He served as an appellate prosecutor for 16 years, first in Fort Bend County and later in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office from 2007 until his election to the Court. Judge Newell is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both criminal law and criminal appellate law. In 2013, David received the C. Chris Marshall Award for Distinguished Faculty from the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association. David and his beautiful wife, Shayne, currently live in the Houston area with their two sons.
Maggie Jaramillo began her judicial career when she was appointed as Judge of the 400th District Court on October 22, 2014 by Governor Rick Perry. Prior to her appointment, Judge Maggie Jaramillo practiced law for 18 years here in Fort Bend County. Her private practice gave her experience in Criminal Law, Juvenile Law, Probate, Civil Litigation, Mental Health Commitments and Appellate Court Writing. Judge Jaramillo was a part-time adjunct professor at Thurgood Marshall School of Law and served on the Mental Health Board. She is a past President of the Fort Bend County Criminal Lawyers Association.
